Ongoing Projects and Partnerships
The College currently is developing educational and research collaborations with schools of nursing across the globe. These opportunities allow faculty members and students to engage in unique and valuable cultural and academically enriching experiences.
Medical University of Gdansk, Poland
The College of Nursing has an established cooperative agreement with the Medical University of Gdansk (link). There have been several faculty and administrator exchanges between those universities.
In Spring 2006, senior students and faculty members participated in the College’s first international practicum experience in Gdansk, Poland. They were engaged in a number of different activities, including collaboration with health professionals on community assessment and health promotion activities as well as sharing insights with Polish faculty members and students on nursing education.
Faculty members from MUG also have visited the UF College of Nursing. These included Roman Kaliszan, D.Sc., PhD, Rector of MUG, Janusz Morys, MD, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Piotr Lass, MD, PhD, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences and Aleksandra Gaworska-Krzeminska, N.Med, PhD, Head of the Department of Nursing.
Future plans with MUG are being considered.
Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan
The College has developed a partnership with the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan (UADY). For the past three years, faculty members have accompanied students to Merida, Yucatan, where they were able to learn about health care in a different culture and gain rich cultural experiences. Students also provided care to local community members and made health prevention and education presentations.

The College of Nursing currently is working with the UF Health Science Center Global Health Committee on development of interdisciplinary experiences for health professions students from the Yucatan and UF.
The College is in the process of developing a more specific Collaborative Agreement between the UF College of Nursing and the Facultad de Enfermería of UADY. The objectives of this Agreement will be development of long-term research and health care projects that include faculty members, and graduate and undergraduate students

Chungham National University—Korea
In Fall 2008, the College of Nursing welcomed two groups of nurse practitioners from Chungnam National University in Korea. The nurses traveled to UF to learn about the United States health care system and to explore similarities and differences in nurse practitioner’s roles in the U.S and Korea. These nurses were the first in Korea to graduate from Chungnam’s newly established advanced practice nursing degree program. As the first in their country to hold advanced practice degrees in nursing, they have not had role models for practice. The College International Affairs Committee arranged the visit and faculty members at the College served as preceptors for the students throughout their week-long clinical practicum experience in U.S. acute care settings.
This highly successful visit inspired the UF College of Nursing and the
Chungnam School of Nursing to explore further opportunities for a student and faculty exchange program.
In 2009 the University of Florida and Chungnam National University signed a Cooperative Agreement. Endowed Chair Dr. Beverly Roberts attended a conference in Korea and presented work she had done in conjunction with Dr. Rayun Song, a visiting professor from Chungnam National University in 2008.
Collaborative faculty research and promotion of graduate students from Korea are anticipated. Dr. Sunny Yoon was instrumental in putting this agreement through and promoting the relationship.
Other activities
The College's faculty members and students also actively participate in externally- sponsored mission trips to developing countries to conduct health screenings, educate local health care personnel, and promote health prevention among its citizens.
