Teaching: Dr. Hinze has taught numerous courses and clinical sections in the undergraduate curriculum including Fundamentals of Nursing, Adult Health Nursing, Nursing of Adults in Complex health care with corresponding clinical rotations at Shands Teaching Hospital, Shands Rehabilitation Hospital and Shands at AGH. In addition she has taught Professional Socialization and Introduction to Nursing Research. She is currently chair of the Department of Adult and Elderly Nursing.


Research: Dr. Hinze did her thesis and dissertation work investigating the physiological and psychological effects of complementary pain therapies on experimentally induced pain. Since then she has conducted qualitative studies with focus groups exploring curriculum redesign and patient perceptions of nursing care.

Service: Dr. Hinze serves as the College representative to the Shands @ AGH Policy and Procedure Committee and the Shands Hospital Scope of Practice Committee. Previous service activities include membership and chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee, Leadership Council, Search Committee and other ad hoc committees within the College’s organization.

Dr. Hinze holds membership in the Florida Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International.

Clinical practice area/expertise: Dr. Hinze’s clinical practice has primarily been in the area of adult health medical surgical nursing and critical care nursing. She has been licensed to practice nursing in four different states and has been a Director of Critical Care Nursing in a 350-bed community hospital.

Education: Dr. Hinze received her BSN in Nursing at St. Louis University and her MS in Adult Health Nursing at the University of Missouri. She received her PhD in Nursing at the University of Texas.
