Teaching: Dr. Sutton teaches both didactic and clinical nursing courses in complex health problems for undergraduate students and accelerated BSN students. She also teaches gerontology in the graduate track. She is clinical track coordinator for the MSN Clinical Nurse Specialist Track.

Research: Dr. Sutton’s research focus is on social support and quality of life outcomes in women with breast cancer, exercise adherence to reduce fatigue in women with breast cancer, and falls in the older adult.

Service: Dr. Sutton’s clinical practice is as clinical nurse specialist in older adult health at Shands at the University of Florida Health Science Center. Her practice is primarily related to fall prevention. She serves as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee at the College of Nursing and is involved in the development of the Doctor of Nursing Practice curriculum. She holds membership in the Florida Nurses Association, National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Oncology Nursing Society and the North Central Florida Chapter of ONS, the Southern Nursing Research Society, and the Gerontological Society of America and Sigma Theta Tau International. She is a lifetime member of the West Virginia University School of Nursing Alumni Association and served as president for this association.

Clinical practice area/expertise:  Dr. Sutton’s clinical expertise is in adult health nursing with emphasis on acute care and gerontology.

Education: Dr. Sutton received her BSN at West Virginia University. She received her MS in Adult Health Nursing from The Pennsylvania State University and her PhD in Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh.
