Generic BSN Admission Criteria
Admission is dependent upon completion of 60 semester hours, which includes both UF admission requirements as well as College of Nursing pre-professional courses. UF general education required courses are detailed in the UF catalog.
Enrollment is limited due to availability of clinical learning facilities and the availability of qualified faculty to maintain appropriate faculty-to-student ratios in all clinical practice settings.
Due to this limited enrollment and a large volume of applications, UF students must meet tracking requirements by the end of the spring semester, sophomore year, to be considered for admission.
Students who have an AA degree from a dual enrollment program, including the majority of prerequisite courses for the Generic BSN program, will be permitted, if admitted to UF as Freshman, to apply for admission to the upper division nursing major during the Spring Semester of their Freshman year. Students meeting these requirements must work with the College of Nursing Undergraduate Advisor to develop an academic plan of at least 12 credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring Semesters of their Freshman year. This plan should include completion of all required nursing prerequisite courses. If the student achieves a 3.3 overall and 3.3 pre-professional GPA, including both the AA courses and courses taken during the Freshman year, he/she will be considered a native (UF), on-track pre-nursing student for purposes of nursing upper division admission consideration.
Please Note: Students who have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a subject unrelated to nursing are only eligible for the Accelerated BSN program, not the Generic BSN.
Pre-professional requirements specific to the nursing major include:
- Statistics
- Sociology
- Psychology
- Human Growth and Development or Developmental Psychology
- Chemistry (4 - 6 credits)
- Microbiology
- Human Nutrition
- Anatomy or A&P I
- Physiology or A&P II
Minimally, the following criteria must be met:
- Completion of two sequential courses of foreign language in secondary school or 8-10 semester hours at the post-secondary level, or documentation of an equivalent level of proficiency.
- An overall GPA of at least 2.8.
- A GPA of at least 2.8 in all required pre-professional courses.
- A grade of C or better in all required pre-professional courses.
- Fulfillment of the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) requirement.
- Satisfactory completion of communication and computation requirements
